Employment in a carbon less society

Recent months has seen a huge increase in the official unemployment figures. This increase has mainly affected manual workers in the construction and manufacturing sectors. As the Green Party does not at present have an employment policy an Employment Policy Group has recently been set up which I have been asked to chair.
Among the issues to be looked at are the following:

• The need to re-skill and up-skill workers (both unemployed and those within the workforce)
• New employment opportunities in the environmental sector and in alternative technologies
• What changes need to be made to the current social welfare and taxation systems
• The increasing casualisation of the workforce and the role of employment agencies

We are looking for members for the group or any firm
practical ideas people might have on these or on related topics.
