Targeted youth funding welcomed by White - Kilkenny gets over €170,000
Green Party T.D. for Carlow/Kilkenny Mary White has welcomed the €41,000 in funding allocated to Kilkenny for youth club equipment grants as well as the €129,224 for enhancing the county’s school parent rooms and libraries. The funding, allocated from the Dormant Accoungs Fund and the RAPID Leverage Fund, is aimed to enhance school library facilities and parent rooms and provide small scale equipment for youth groups.
Commenting on the announcements, the Green Party Deputy Leader said: “This targeted funding is a welcome measure for combating social disadvantage and giving our youth outlets for recreation and encouraging school children to read at school. I myself have been working hard on proposals to encourage reading schemes in schools. Youth is a vital time in a person’s development, and providing youth groups and schools with resources to facilitate social and mental development is paramount. This funding of youth groups and parent room and library rooms in schools is evidence of the Government’s continued commitment to providing for our children, and is acknowledgment of these institutions in Kilkenny.”
An extra €70 million will be spent by the Government tackling disadvantage this year, bringing the total expenditure to €800 million.
