New Communications Officer has hard act to follow!

As most of you know Cathy Fitzgearld is now managing Artlinks, a wonderful resource for artists in the 5-county south-east area. Artlinks has become a great success with over 750 people actively availing of the service. It will be of little surprise to many of you that this success has come about due to the hard graft and limitless creative talents of Cathy.

She had been the Carlow Kilkenny Greens group secretary over the last few years and developed a great website in the process. She kept everyone in ‘the loop’ by utilising the technologies of text and internet and I’m sure she kept impeccable minutes, (maybe Anne Mc will add a comment on this). Of course any group is only as strong as the members involved, and this strength comes about from generating good ideas, good organisation and implementation. Our group has become one of the strongest Green Party groups in Ireland. Again this success was achieved though huge input from Cathy. From my first encounter with the group, Cathy’s energy and enthusiasm made a great impression, and lead me to join the Green Party.

Over the last year she has shown me the ropes in regard to managing the group’s website and we stay in regular contact about the project. She nominated me to succeed her as ‘communications officer’, which was agreed upon at a meeting recently. I hope I can continue her good work in this role, though it is a lot easier to travel when the path has already been made.

Since undertaking my new role I now have a better appreciation of the immense work Cathy has been doing over the years and so as one party member to another, I want to take this opportunity to say “thanks Cathy, you’re a hard act to follow!”

  1. I agree with all Paul has written. Cathy did keep impeccable (and short) minutes….I’m learning!
I think the greatest testament to her hard work and efficiency is the fact that at least three people are now doing the work she did - not including the canvassing and personal admin for Mary.
We are certainly lucky to have someone with such creativity, enthusiasm and endless energy - as well as a friendly and generous attitude to life.
Anytime I needed support and clarification - which was often - she was there.
Thanks Cathy and good luck with Artlinks and all your projects
    Anne

  2. A big thank you to Cathy who brought us out of the dark ages to appreciate web texting, the marvellous use of the web site, indeed the necessity of the web site and and how Cathy’s skills united our Great Green Group through her cajoling, praising and endorsing all our Green work. A mere post could never do justice to the dedidcation, enthusiam professionalism and support. A great Green thank you for everything Mary White

  3. I fully agree with the previous comments. Cathy has been the driving force of Ireland’s most dynamic Green Party local groups. Our success to date is due in no small part to the organisational strength and imagination she infused into our activites. Cathy has helped us to visualise the endless possibilities of the Green Party in Carlow/Kilkenny, and we will continue to pursue those possibilities.
Good luck Cathy and thanks, I know that you are already making your mark in Artlinks, wouldn’t expect anything less!
And good luck to Paul, couldn’t think of a more able replacement, (well, we couldn’t find anyone else!)
