White welcomes Green party debate on Carlow/Kilkenny Greens’ proposal

Green Party T.D. for Carlow/Kilkenny, Mary White, has welcomed the debate by the Green party of her constituency group’s motion on reform of car registration plates.
Speaking at the end of the Green Party convention, where the Carlow/Kilkenny Greens’ proposal was deemed the most original motion, Deputy White said: “I was delighted with the constructive debate at our party’s convention on the constituency group’s idea of changing car registration plates so that the digits of year of registration are replaced with the band rating of a car in terms of carbon dioxide emissions.
Such a banding system is now in effect for VRT and motor tax, and the Carlow/Kilkenny Greens want to see this proposal implemented so that energy efficiency rating becomes the cool thing on a car plate, not the notion that everyone knows how young or old your car is.”
Green party members have asked for the proposal to be developed so that the party’s National Executive Council can give it further consideration.
