WHITE CALLS FOR NEW FIRE STATION IN GRIAGUENAMANAGH TO PROCEEED WITHOUT DELAY
Green Party Deputy Leader Cllr. Mary White has urged Kilkenny Co. Council to get cracking on developing a new Fire Station as quickly as possible for the people f the Griaguenamanagh area
“I have visited the Fire Station in Graiguenamanagh and I have spoken with personnel at the Station . It is absolutely imperative that building begins without delay for a new Station. I ,understand that there is land readily available close to the new ring road in Graiguenamanagh and plans to proceed with a suitable building should start straight away.
Present conditions for the Fire Staff are totally inadequate and it is surprising that in such a cramped space 9 Firemen have to operate with one toilet, one shower, tiny lttle lockers and very little in the way of modern conveniences such as a small kitchen etc.,I would urge Kilkenny Co. Council to initate plans to replicate the type of modern Fire Station which the people of Freshford now have. This station should be the prototype for all other regional stations. Our Firemen do exception work often in very hazardous conditions . They need quality stations, good facilities and state of the art buildings. Our firemen have done this Constituency proud over the years and the station in Graiguenamanagh has served local people well but the time has come to move forward and build a state of the art new Station for the future needs of the area. As someone who has had recent need of the fire service on two occasions in the recent past due to anti social behaviour, I can testify to the excellence of service, politeness and professionalism. What is now needed in Graiguenamanag is a building complimenting the professional work that our firemen do. ”
