WHITE WELCOMES €2m BIOFUEL PLAN
Green Party Deputy Leader, Cllr.. Mary White has today welcomed the Government initiative to invest in €2M to enable trucks, coaches and private cars to run on pure plant oil Cllr. White said,
“ I welcome this announcement to give coach and truck operators the chance to convert their vehicles to pure plant oil which will hep lower carbon emissions..
Cllr. White added, Pure plant oil is excise exempt and costs about 80 cents a litre
I would urge the Government to roll out this scheme nationally in order that we can comply with the EU Biofuel Directive (2003) so that we can meet our target of using biofuels as a mix in all cars by 2010
“As a user of pure plant user myself I can speak with some experience that my car is performing better than when it ran purely on diesel .From a consumer point of view it is nice to be able to support local agriculture by using home grown rape seed oil and to know that I am cutting down ongreenhouse gases. I would urge business interests already exploring the possibility of opening a biofuel plant in Carlow to speed up their deliberations and make Carlow the giant of the renewable energy sector in Ireland. This would do much to restore pride in our County and bring on stream much needed jobs and to have the satisfaction that Carlow was pioneering a bioethanol plant which would attract further inward investment”
