SEWERAGE RUNNING INTO SLANEY FROM CLONEGAL
Green Party deputy leader Cllr. Mary White has urged Carlow Co. Council to remediate the problem of sewerage running into the Slaney at Clonegal.
Cllr. White said,
” I have already informed the Water Services Department of this problem and I personally have seen disgusting matter running into the Slaney. It is completly unacceptable that rats, sanitary wear and sewerage are running straight into one of our most famous salmon rivers. With the advent of new houses in Clonegal and with extra capacity on the sewerage system it is incumbent on the Council to ensure that this problem does not reoccur. I have spoken to local residents who have had the sewerage backing up to their kitchen door and who are terrifified of disease effecting themselves or their animals. If there is a storm water problem that should be immediatly fixed and if it is a capacity problem it is a disgrace that this was not considered when all the extra housing went into Clonegal. Good planning would have ensured that this would not happen.
I urge Carlow Co. Council to do everything in it’s power to sort out this problem. The Slaney is one of Clonegal’s main attractions and Clonegal is one of Carlow’s most beautiful and litter free villages. Sewerage problems are not the responsbility of the residents but they are for the Local Authority”
