Green Party Deputy Leader Cllr. Mary White called on those residents of the Weir Apartments in Graiguecullen who are using the Barrow as a convenient method of waste disposal to act responsibly and dispose of their rubbish in the correct manner.

Cllr. White said,
” I have been contacted by shocked residents and locals who have seen rubbish thrown straight from balconies into the River. This is completly inacceptable and I urge the Local Authority to pursue this matter vigorously. I have contacted the relevant personnel overseeing the disposal of waste for the apartments and also the Environmental Patrol Officer who have agreed to step up vigilance in the area.”

Cllr. White added,
“The Barrow is one of Carlow’s loveliest attractions and it is shocking to think that some residents of our Town think so little of our River that they fling bags of domestic waste into it. The Apartments do provide waste disposal facilities and I would urge those uncivic minded residents to think twice before engaging in such practices and before a litter fine is imposed upon them”
